Tasting Notes

Bright red with a vibrant purple hue. Plush aromas set the scene, with dark plums, blueberries and rhubarb, together with lifted floral spices such as white pepper, cinnamon and violets. It’s undoubtedly a hedonistic display of aromas that transposes presence and depth without feeling heavy and overburdened. The palate conveys a similar sentiment, with a mixed bag of dark forest fruits bursting on the scene and continuing through the mouth coating journey. There is incredible definition to the fruit flavours, yet they meld into one coherent experience. Tannins are complimentary to this journey, with flavours maintaining presence in the mouth long after consumption.

Vineyard Notes

Oakridge Vineyard, Close Planted Block. East-facing at 90 metres above sea level. Planted at 5,200 plants per hectare in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream using the R6VW28 done and cropped at 6.6 t/Ha.

Winemaker's Notes

Hand-picked and sorted prior to destemming 70% of the berries into an open fermenter on top of 30% whole bunches, After a three-day cold maceration, fermentation spontaneously commenced peaking at 25°C The fermenter was regularly pumped over and plunged during a three-week fermentation before the wine was pressed to French oak puncheons for a 14 month maturation on its gross lees.

Vintage Notes

A vintage defined by cool, wet conditions, low crops and harvesting late into autumn. The resulting wines have great depth of flavour and vibrant, balanced acidities. Flowering occurred in November, fruit set in late December and harvest on April 6th at 13.0° baume.
