Background
Exceptional wines from specific and single blocks, produced in small quantities and released in only the best years. An Oakridge 864 wine is terroir-driven. Made to demonstrate the importance of time and place with every bottle, and always a tribute to tradition, these wines are ready to drink now or cellar.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw in appearance with a green hue. Alluringly complex aroma with powerful yet restrained intensity. Burnt match and gunflint sits over grapefruit, lemon, white flowers and green skinned nectarine, hints of fresh cashew and toast just hover in the background. Unfolding with every look. The palate is pure and intricately detailed, with a great depth of fruit that builds in intensity as it travels across the mid-palate. Flint and slate, lead to nectarine, pomelo and grilled citrus. Seamlessly textured and creamy yeast notes form body and flesh. The finish is persistent, long and precise with savoury phenolics and mineral refreshment. Linear, formed and complex.
Vineyard Notes
Funder & Diamond vineyard, Drive Block. North facing at 240 metres above sea level. Close planted in the red volcanic soil of Wandin East in 1990 using the P58 clone.
Winemaker's Notes
All grapes were hand harvested and sorted prior to whole bunch pressing directly to French oak puncheons for natural fermentation. 20% of the barrels being new. Post-fermentation, the wine was matured on its fermentation lees for 10 months in barrel followed by a further 6 months in tank prior to bottling after a single filtration.
Vintage Notes
A long, cool vintage with abundant rainfall and very low cropping levels has resulted in wine with great purity and a high level of natural acidity. Flowering occurred in late October, fruit set in December and harvest on March 20th 12.2° baume.

Halliday Wine Comapnion
“Rightfully considered one of the great wines of Australia, this brilliant wine – from a cooler year – is another superb rendition. A bright green gold, expect aromas of lemon and pink grapefruit pith, freshly baked ginger-spice biscuits from the beautifully handled and integrated oak as well as jasmine, freshly laundered linen, wet stone and a hint of gunflint. Like many great wines, this balances power and delicacy in equal measure. There’s a refreshing limoncello bitterness on the long, super-satisfying finish.” – Philip Rich

“The purity and energy in this wine is really impressive with sliced apples, mineral, flint and perfume. It’s full-bodied yet remains energetic and weightless on the palate with terrific length and focus. Center palate is compacted. Goes on for minutes. Really high energy. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling

“It’s never a surprise when Oakridge rocks out a great chardonnay but that doesn’t make the tasting/drinking of one any less joyful. This is a beautiful chardonnay straight out of the blocks, hands down, done. It is a wine of flamboyant flavour, great drive and quite wonderful length. Stonefruit, lime, ginger, cashew, crushed fennel and cedarwood I’d say, with grapefruit through the aftertaste, though essentially it presents as one. This is a wine to light up a night.” – Campbell Mattinson
