Tasting Notes
Deep purple with a purple hue. An intensely fragrant nose of dark cassis fruit and blood plum, violet florals are complemented by notes of anise spice, cedar and oak toast. The palate is refined and medium bodied, fresh and bright, with concentrated a core of dark fruit and silky yet supportive tannins. Flavours of cassis and black plum are complemented with an element of spice complexity and fine line of acidity driving the finish.
Vineyard Notes
Oakridge Vineyard, Winery Block. North-facing at 120 meters above sea level. Planted in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream in 1996 to a mixed clonal selection and cropped at 4.5 t/Ha.
Winemaker's Notes
All grapes hand harvested and sorted prior to gently destemming to fermenter. After a four day cold maceration, fermentation commenced and peaked at 30°C. Pump-overs were conducted twice per day, and post ferment, the wine remained on skins for an additional 4 weeks prior to pressing. The wine then spent 15 months in French oak barrels maturing before blending and bottling.
Vintage Notes
A warm wet spring followed by a dry summer and autumn, with good crops in near perfect harvesting conditions. Flowering occurred in November, fruit set in January and harvest on March 18th at 12.9° baume.
