Background

Our 864 range features exceptional wines from specific and single blocks, produced in small quantities and released in only the best years. An Oakridge 864 wine is terroir-driven. Made to demonstrate the importance of time and place with every bottle, and always a tribute to tradition, these wines are ready to drink now or cellar.

Tasting Notes

Bright garnet with light purple tints and a pale hue. Immediately, very expressive and aromatic. Mixed red fruits - pomegranate, red cherry, raspberry and cranberry infused with notes of mineral and flint. Then there’s an underlying spectrum of brown spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and bergamot plus herbal flecks of sage and thyme derived from whole bunch fermentation. These flavours cascade over the palate which is richly textured and satiny-soft adding a sense of dimension and depth as it evolves and changes with air. At once, this is bright, fresh, savoury and complex. Deceptively powerful yet totally finessed.

Vineyard Notes

Henk Vineyard, Aqueduct block. North facing at 240 metres above sea level. Planted in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock in 2008 using the MV6 clone and cropped at 4.8 t/Ha.

Winemaker's Notes

Hand-picked and sorted prior to destemming 80% of the berries into an open fermenter on top of 20% whole bunches. Fermentation proceeded naturally and lasted three weeks prior to pressing to French oak barrels, of which 10% were new. Malolactic conversion was completed in barrel where the wine remained on its gross lees for 10 months followed by a further 6 months on lees in tank before bottling.

Vintage Notes

A vintage defined by cool, wet conditions, low crops, and harvesting late into autumn. The resulting wines have great depth of flavour and vibrant, balanced acidities. Flowering occurred in late October, fruit set in December, and harvest on March 19th at 12.8° Baumé.
