Tasting Notes
Fresh looking with a deep, dark ruby colour and light purple hues. Pure cabernet. Fresh and lifted with the classic aromas of cassis, blackberry, violets and a light leafiness. Digging deeper, black cherry, red raspberries and notes of light cedar and wet tobacco that all swirl around that core of ripe fruit. This is elegant, medium bodied with a lightness of touch. Soft, velvet like tannins with just enough pippy crunch and firmness are there to reign in those fruit flavours and provide a sense of refreshment. Plus there’s a herbal nod that champions this variety before the red fruited acidity stretches the wine to its ultimate conclusion. Classic Yarra Cabernet. Taught, fragrant, lip smacking and refreshing.
Vineyard Notes
Oakridge Vineyard, Winery Block. North-facing at 120 meters above sea level. Planted in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream in 1996 to a mixed clonal selection and cropped at 3.5 t/Ha.
Winemaker's Notes
All grapes hand harvested and sorted prior to gently destemming to fermenter. After a four day cold maceration, fermentation commenced and peaked at 30°C. Pump-overs were conducted twice per day, and post ferment, the wine remained on skins for an additional 4 weeks prior to pressing. The wine then spent 15 months in French oak barrels maturing before blending and bottling.
Vintage Notes
A long cool growing season with average cropping levels and abundant flavour has resulted in wines of outstanding varietal flavour. Flowering occurred in late October, fruit set in December and harvest on April 7th at 13.5° baume.

Halliday Wine Companion - 96pts
“Immaculate balance of blackcurrant fruit, oak and tannins. The fresh fruit flavours are protected by the low alcohol.” – James Halliday
The Real Review - 96pts
“The bouquet is lovely bell-clear, perfectly ripe cassis cabernet fruit, the palate full-bodied and bright, vibrant and promising to age superbly. The tannins are gentle and fine-grained; the fruit does nearly all of the talking. A benchmark cabernet” – Huon Hooke
Wine Reviewer - 96pts
“The palate is tightly coiled with tannins having a touch of graphite and dark chocolate that give structure and will underpin the wines longevity. The fruit tends to dark cherry and blackberry that is both generous but savoury edged. There is lovely length to finish with a faint touch of fennel seed alongside long lived black fruits.” – Patrick Eckel
