Tasting Notes
Fresh and lifted fruit aromas of blackcurrant traverse to wild berries, complemented by hints of violet floral with notes of brown spice and oak toast. The palate is elegant and medium bodied with classical claret notes of purple and blue fruits that intermingle with soft velvet tannins. There is brightness and balance and excellent flow to the wine, with supportive oak and a long finish.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was sourced from the north facing Barkala Ridge vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Wandin East.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine – fermentation on skins with twice daily pump-overs for four weeks followed by a 15-month maturation in 225 litre French oak barrels.
Vintage Notes
A long, cool growing season with average cropping levels and ample rainfall has resulted in wines with outstanding varietal definition and purity.
