Tasting Notes
Bright, vivid straw appearance with an electric white hue. A lively lift of white flowers, citrus fruits and kaffir lime leaf aromas captivate from the first sniff. Complexing notes of nougat and flint complement the intense aromas of freshly cut under-ripe peach and hints of white pepper. The palate exudes a glossy and energetic entry with vibrant bright lemon rind and stone fruit characters, reminiscent of a fresh baked lemon tart. The palate maintains a lot of tension and mineral notes - a tightly coiled spring waiting to unfurl and reveal over time. Crunchy acidity and texture keep things in line as flavours are carried along on a glass-like train. An excellent example of modern contemporary chardonnay from the upper Yarra Valley, true to the site and cool season.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was sourced from the north facing Hazeldene Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Gladysdale.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine: handpicking and whole bunch pressing directly into 500 litre French oak puncheons for a natural fermentation followed by 14 months maturing on lees.
Vintage Notes
A vintage defined by cool, wet conditions, low crops and harvesting late into autumn. The resulting wines have great depth of flavour and vibrant, balanced acidities.
