Tasting Notes
Pale cerise with a watery hue. A really compelling nose of aromatic red fruit - red cherry, freeze dried raspberry and alpine strawberry, before fresh plum adds bass notes for more depth, and then light brown spices from whole bunch fermentation adding complexity to that lift. These flavours all delicately bounce across the palate, the brown spices and white oak flavours adding a savoury ripple, complexity and interest. Tannins are fine, soft and velvety with just a hint of powdery texture to the finish. Savoury, moreish and distinctly red fruited upper Yarra in style.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was sourced from the north facing Hazeldene Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Gladysdale.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine: whole berry/bunch fermentation in open vessels for two weeks followed by a 10 month maturation in French oak vessels.
Vintage Notes
A long, late and cool growing season with very low crops delivering wines with exceptional flavour, freshness and balance.
