Tasting Notes
Cherry red with a crimson hue. Exuberant red cherry aromas jump out of the glass. Hints of red liquorice and a dusting of fresh chopped sage contribute to a hedonistic and intriguing array of elegant pinot noir aromas. Rose petals round out the aromas of a delicate and pretty example of the variety. On the palate, a sinewy latticework of red fruit flavours, particularly raspberry and just-ripe strawberry, are carried along by fine grained tannins. Nostalgic flavours of raspberry shortcake biscuits bring home a notable tasting experience.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was sourced from the north facing Hazeldene Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Gladysdale.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine: whole berry/bunch fermentation in open vessels for two weeks followed by an 11 month maturation in French oak vessels.
Vintage Notes
A vintage defined by cool, wet conditions, low crops and harvesting late into autumn. The resulting wines have great depth of flavour and vibrant, balanced acidities.
