Tasting Notes
Dark burgundy with a light purple hue. This is a riper expression of pinot noir. Blue to black fruit with depth and concentration. Rich plumminess, black cherries, blueberries. And there’s plenty of brown spice from whole bunch fermentation adding both complexity and interest. The palate continues that theme of richness but also with hints of milk chocolate and cocoa powder. There’s a real sense of structure and firmness here, but without overstepping the line. The tannins are fine, lacey, filigreed. Old vine material showing concentration and complexity.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was sourced from the north facing Willowlake Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Gladysdale.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine: whole berry/bunch fermentation in open vessels for two weeks followed by a 10 month maturation in French oak vessels.
Vintage Notes
A long, late and cool growing season with very low crops delivering wines with exceptional flavour, freshness and balance.
