Tasting Notes
Ruby red, bright cherry hue. A fragrant lift of strawberries and cream greets from the start. Further aromas of earl grey tea and squished strawberries delight. Notes of forest floor, lifted jasmine and violets suggest judicious use of whole bunch fermentation. The complex aromas lead into a soft entry to the palate, where raspberries, plums, cherries and rhubarb all combine to mesmerise. Bringing focus to the wine are savoury spices, earthy complexes, and a silty texture that demands a return for another look. An inherently complex pinot noir that warrants multiple visits to the glass.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was sourced from the north facing Willowlake Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Gladysdale.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine: whole berry/bunch fermentation in open vessels for two weeks followed by an 11 month maturation in French oak vessels.
Vintage Notes
A vintage defined by cool, wet conditions, low crops and harvesting late into autumn. The resulting wines have great depth of flavour and vibrant, balanced acidities.
